Once you have decided that LASIK is right for you, we will run a series of tests to evaluate your vision. It is much like a normal eye exam except we will use a highly advanced scanning tool to create a personal “map” of your eye. This “map” reflects the unique attributes that make your eyes special, including those annoying irregularities that led to your vision problems all these years. The doctor will use these maps to determine exactly how your eyes will need to be reshaped for ideal vision. On surgery day… Upon your arrival, we go over the post op instructions and answer any lingering questions you might have. You'll relax in one of our Laz-Y-Boy recliners. Prior to the procedure, you will receive a series of anesthetic drops in each eye. These will numb your eyes to ensure it is painless…at most you may feel a little pressure. A mild sedative may also be given before surgery. Once your eyes are numb, you will be asked to lie down on the table under the laser equipment. Throughout the procedure you will follow a small blinking light above you. There is no need to worry if your eyes move a tiny bit, the Allegretto Wave Laser uses eye tracking technology so it can keep up. Your surgeon will begin by pulling back a thin layer of tissue from the cornea, exposing the underlying tissue so your surgeon can reshape it. Creating the flap only takes a few seconds. Next your surgeon will apply small rapid bursts of the laser to carefully reshape your cornea. Flat areas may be contoured and curved areas may be flattened, etc. The personalized map of your eyes that was taken will guide the laser, making sure you receive the precise treatment you need. Once your eyes have been reshaped, the doctor will put the outer layer of tissue back into place, where it acts as a natural ‘bandage’. |
